## Introduction

For a long time I've been interested in camping, camping gear, and living off grid with minimal resources. However, historically, I've had more gear than I've had experience actually using it. I am an experienced camper in that I know precisely what to do, and have camped many times in the past, but what I've done much less of is use my equipment well, over many days, in backcountry. This is what I'm wanting to do more of an here I'm sharing my experiences getting more masterful as a backpacker in remote territories.

Camping relates to many other interests I have, like:

- Living frugally,
- Resolving homelessness,
- Understanding homelessness,
- City and country planning relating to comfort of travelers.
- Travel with less planning.
- Landownership (I'm a landowner in Alaska, with trespasser and trail use concerns).

Here I will blend some of what I learn about becoming really comfortable the backcountry with how it relates to these verious other topics.

## Finding appropriate locations to camp where there is no risk of being hassled

An issue with camping is even if you are well off, and appear well off, you may be quickly categorized alongwith homeless or vagrants who may have problems. Being a camper, or a backpacking enthusiast, of course does not imply such a thing, and even the rich and famous enjoy being adventurers around the globe. We shop at expensive outfitting stores and overpay for gear, to discover, that we may be treated, not like anyone else, but as people who may seem more akin to criminals than tourists with money and prestige. Not wanting to be lumped even alongwith people who are unsightly, dirty, or unkempt, or the homeless with personal issues even if they have nothing to do with laws, I've taken efforts to ensure my appearance is not only one of a backpacker, but one who spends on luxury goods (which I do anyway). I am also taking efforts to ensure that the locations where I camp are

1) Allowed according to applicable laws, wich are hard to discover sometimes, AND
2) In areas unlikely to have passers who would see me.

The idea here is to then avoid hassle by being unseen, and by being within the to contol any situation that might emerge from being seen, by someone who might complain, investigate, or otherwise cause issue resulting in having to avoid any question about legality.

> *Another major objective I have is to have the most minimal possible plan regarding planning, so that as I travel around, I hardly have to think about whether there is any issue with my trip. This is an attempt to plan to not have to plan, or to plan to a minimal degree, mitigating all reasonable risks.*

*[More to come]*

<a name="long-distance-trails-and-schedules">Long Distance Trails and Schedules</a>

The following is a list of trails by continent and country, and associated timelines for when the trails are better hiked, or when hiking is allowed. Some trails have closures, and windows of use are therefore to be considered in planning.

The objective of this section is to provide a list of some of the better known long-distance hiking trails worldwide, and a potential travel strategy that would permit year round utilization. This would allow the professional hiking athlete a way to train, and a professional non-renter a way to avoid landlord payments.

Some trails have supposed fees of use, and I will discuss the supposed legaality of those fees, history, and free use prospects given thtose supposed fees. This particular book is interested in free or nearly free camping and hiking, and is disinterested in any charges for use of nature.

<a name="roadway-hikes">Roadway Hikes</a>

Long distance hiking is not only viable by hiking trail, but can be done simply along roadways, especially those that are considered scenic. Roadway walking is in many locales stated to be a legal form of transportation, as is cycling, motorcycling, and motor vehicle. If people do not continue to utilize roadways for walking, it will be illegalized potentially, so it may be worth encouraging continued use. However, some locations would not be safe, and this book is skewed towards a high level of caution, while also being skeptical about false statements about risks used to prevent people from walking on roadways.

This section, like that on trails, goes continent by continent and includes individual nation related information. Roadways are vast, so it would not be possible to cover all walking opportunties. This is a fantastic thing about walking roadways: the number of roadways large and small that can be walked is so vast that one really has an extremely large set of walking opportunites that can be as scenic or more scenic than trails.

Instead of listing all specific roadways that can be used, a more general legal and safety strategy will be discussed with information about what regions are hospitable to walkers of their roadway networks. This will enable myself and readers to have some direction for hiking a large number of roadways without having to specifically discuss each road, which is not possible. However, specific roadways that I've considered or have attempted will be discussed, but these are understood to be a really small sampling of what is possible; and since a small list of roads is not as useful as a general strategy for road use, the general strategy is favored for discussion.
